Popularly known as Mama G for General, Patience Ozokwor was born on 25th March in Ngwo, Enugu State, Nigeria. She attended Abimbola Gibson Memorial School, Lagos and gained admission into the Methodist Girls, Yaba but because of the heat of the political crisis that later culminated into the civil war, she had to relocate to Enugu. She got married immediately afterwards.
Mama G attended Teachers Training College in Afikpo from where she proceeded to IMT Enugu where she studied Fine and Applied Arts, specialising in Graphics. After receiving her teaching degree, Mama G decided to venture into broadcasting. She was employed as an announcer with FRCN Enugu and was later retrenched when they closed down all the medium wave band stations. From there, Patience Ozokwor went to another broadcasting facility where she began to do radio dramas and excelled.
Mama G joined the movie industry in her first movie Ukwa in 1995. By 1998, she had become hugely popular with the movie Authority. Her role as Mother General (Mama G), in ‘Old School’ was so successful that her fans all over the world refer to her as Mama G and thus gave her birth to her stage name.
Patience Ozokowor is a widow with four children, three biological and one adopted. Her first son is an engineer, while the last is a footballer with Rangers International of Enugu.
